Waxy’s is a genuine and authentic Irish pub, built straight from the isle itself and transported all the way to San Atonio. The name derives from the legend of an Irish candle maker whose shop and home burned down but he managed to survive without a hair singed. In Ireland, “waxy” means lucky.

It’s here you’ll learn about two of the luckiest men in the Old West, and how that luck made them most successful train robbers who ever lived, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. But like all great Old West legends, sooner or later their luck runs out.

Crockett Tavern

The Crockett Tavern is a recent addition to the famed Crockett Hotel, opening in 2022. As for the hotel itself, it’s been providing comfort to people from all over since 1909. The hotel is, of course named after the folk hero, Davy Crockett.

On this stop, you’ll learn all about the man himself, his upbringing in Tennessee where he learned to hunt and track, his several terms as Congressman, and his fatal last stand at the Battle of the Alamo.

The Esquire Tavern

The Esquire Tavern opened its doors in 1933 with the end of Prohibition, and it's been pouring drinks for thirsty customers ever since. It was right across the bridge that patrons of the past could enjoy the Vaudeville Variety Theatre.

As a patron of the present, you can enjoy a drink while learning about the Fatal Corner where the most famous gunfight in all of San Antonio took place 1884 at the Vaudeville Variety Theatre, more than 50 years before the tavern ever opened.
